PREPARING FOR YOUR VISIT

  • Please bring a valid health card to your visits.

  • COVID19 CHANGES: To minimize crowding, no siblings, partners, spouses etc, will be allowed in the clinic with you for the appointment, unless they are there to help you translate. If bringing a child, only one parent will be allowed for the visit. Everyone else will need to wait in the lobby or in the car. If you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath or have been around someone diagnosed with COVID-19, please call us before coming in, as we may need to reschedule your appointment.

  • STOP ALL ALLERGY AND COLD MEDICATIONS AT LEAST 48 HOURS BEFORE YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT. This includes any allergy or cold medications/eye drops/nasal sprays. These medications will block our ability to test you and we will need to reschedule your appointment. In some cases, high doses of steroids like Prednisone or anti-inflammatory drugs like Naproxen (at high doses) can interfere with testing as well - if you are taking these, please let us know ahead of time.

  • If you have asthma: please bring all your inhalers and aerochambers (if you use these) with you to your appointment, as you will need them for asthma breathing tests. DO NOT STOP YOUR ASTHMA INHALERS FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • Out of respect for our patients who have severe allergic reactions to perfumes and strong scents, please ensure that you do not wear perfumes, colognes, scented after shave or hair products or heavily scented soaps on the day of your visit.

  • Before your first visit, it is suggested to arrive approximately fifteen minutes before your appointment to complete any registration information.

  • Our waiting room space is limited: There is no room for strollers in our clinic. You cannot park them in the hallway and our waiting room is not big enough to accommodate multiple strollers. Please limit the family members who come to this visit to the patient and ONE adult (if patient is a child). No siblings who do not have appointments that day.

  • There is a $50 NO SHOW FEE, IF YOU FAIL TO NOTIFY US 48 HOURS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT THAT YOU ARE CANCELLING THE APPOINTMENT.

  • New Patient visits typically take up to 1 hour, but plan for 1.5 hours of time as they can run longer if we are running behind that day - although we strive to be efficient and respectful of everyone’s time, complicated patient problems or allergic reactions do occur from time to time that require our full attention and occasionally put us behind schedule.

  • Patients receiving allergy shots will be expected to stay in the office for 30 minutes after each shot, to ensure that you are not reacting to your shot. Antihistamines may be taken on the day of your shot to reduce local swelling reactions and do not interfere with the efficacy of your allergy shot. Do not get an allergy shot on a day when your asthma is acting up, you have bad flu or cold symptoms, or you are having severe allergy symptoms as these factors can significantly increase your risk of having a bad reaction to your allergy shot.

  • Patients who are scheduled for a food challenge should expect to be in the clinic for 3-4 hours that day (possibly longer if an adverse reaction occurs during the challenge). Please schedule your day accordingly. YOU MUST ARRIVE ON TIME, as you are the first patient of the morning, to ensure the visit runs smoothly. The patient may have a light breakfast on the morning of the challenge. Stop all antihistamines and cold medications at least 48 hours prior to a challenge. If you have significant allergy, asthma, rash, flu or cold symptoms on the day of your challenge or the day before, please call our clinic and let us know. We may need to cancel your challenge and reschedule it to a time when you are feeling better.
